Healthcare is the township's other pillar. The Hackensack Meridian JFK University Medical Center, a 499-bed acute-care teaching hospital on James Street, handles 20,000-plus admissions and 60,000-plus emergency-department visits a year and houses the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute and the JFK Neuroscience Institute. Edison also sits inside Einstein's Alley, the central New Jersey life-sciences corridor along Route 1 and the Turnpike, feeding the region's pharma and biotech base with logistics, lab, and office capacity.

Then there is Oak Tree Road. With 34.9% of Edison residents identifying as Indian American in the 2020 Census, the Edison and Iselin corridor is the largest and most diverse South Asian commercial district in the United States, home to 400-plus businesses, 145-plus Indian restaurants, and the Patel Brothers chain. It is a multilingual small-business economy that runs on bookings, inventory, and customer communication, often in English plus Hindi, Gujarati, and other South Asian languages.

Edison firms automating warehouse and parcel operations, patient access and clinical intake, pharma document and quality workflows, and multilingual retail customer service are pulling ahead of peers still doing the work by hand. The township's position at the NJ Turnpike Exit 10 hub, 27 miles from Manhattan and 25 minutes from Newark Liberty, plus a deep Rutgers-region talent pool, makes it one of the higher-leverage central New Jersey markets to deploy production AI.
