Riverside is the county seat and the largest city of the Inland Empire, the single most important warehousing and distribution corridor in the United States. Health Care and Social Assistance is Riverside’s single largest employment sector at roughly 19,174 workers, anchored by Kaiser Permanente Riverside, Riverside Community Hospital (an HCA 478-bed Level I trauma center downtown), Riverside University Health System, and Riverside Medical Clinic. Education is the third-largest sector at roughly 17,036 workers, led by UC Riverside, an R1 research university and 2023 Association of American Universities member with about 26,000 students and a School of Medicine, alongside California Baptist University and Riverside Community College District.

Riverside also carries a real manufacturing and aerospace base for its size. Bourns has its global headquarters here making electronic components and circuit-protection devices, K&N Engineering runs its worldwide headquarters in performance air-filtration, Collins Aerospace operates an aerospace systems site, and Riverside-based SolarMax Technology builds and installs solar. As the seat of Riverside County, the city also hosts the region’s largest public-sector footprint, from the County of Riverside and the City of Riverside through multiple school districts and the nearby March Air Reserve Base.

Riverside organizations that automate warehouse and 3PL documentation, patient access and clinic intake, student and admissions workflows, claims and underwriting, and back-office coordination are pulling ahead of peers still running everything by hand. With UCR feeding a young, growing talent base and a majority-Hispanic and Latino population that makes bilingual English and Spanish service a baseline expectation, Riverside is one of Southern California’s highest-leverage markets to put production AI to work.
