SRS Distribution, the McKinney-founded building-products distributor, was acquired by The Home Depot in 2024 for an enterprise value near $18.25 billion.

That mix creates real administrative drag. Defense suppliers reconcile parts, quality, and compliance data under DFARS and CMMC; insurers process policy, claims, and agent paperwork under GLBA and Texas Department of Insurance rules; manufacturers and distributors coordinate purchase orders, shipments, and exceptions across plants and branches; and hospitals like Medical City McKinney and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in McKinney handle high-volume patient access under HIPAA. McKinney firms compete for the same engineering and operations talent as the rest of Collin County, and the ones still keying everything by hand are losing ground.

McKinney firms deploying AI for document-heavy back offices, customer and patient communication, supplier and operations workflows, and predictive analytics are pulling ahead. With Collin College's Central Park campus next door and UT Dallas a short drive south feeding the talent base, plus a new commercial terminal coming to McKinney National Airport in late 2026, McKinney is one of the highest-leverage north-Texas markets to put production AI to work under Texas Data Privacy and Security Act discipline.
