Lewiston is the second-largest city in Maine, the urban half of the Lewiston-Auburn metro that straddles the Androscoggin River. Much of this happens inside the Bates Mill complex, the 1.2-million-square-foot former textile mill that was Maine's largest employer until the early 1960s and whose early profits helped fund Bates College. The mill is now redeveloped into banking back-office, insurance, a brewery, restaurants, and Museum L-A. That heritage matters: Lewiston runs on document-heavy, regulated, schedule-driven work, in healthcare intake, in bank and insurance operations, in student records, and in manufacturing, exactly the work AI automation removes.

Lewiston also carries a real multilingual dimension.
