Manufacturing is the metro's single largest sector at about $8.1 billion of a $25.7 billion regional economy, and automotive work runs to IATF 16949 quality standards.

Defense and aerospace electronics run almost as deep. BAE Systems operates a 334,000 square foot controls and avionics center near Fort Wayne International Airport with around 1,100 employees, L3Harris builds infrared and weather-satellite sensors after a $125 million-plus expansion, and Raytheon adds another 530-plus engineers. That cluster lives under ITAR and EAR export controls, DFARS, CMMC, and controlled-unclassified-information handling, where audit trails are not optional.

Healthcare is the second-largest sector at roughly $2.54 billion. Parkview Health employs 17,500-plus co-workers across 15 hospitals and 300-plus outpatient sites, and Lutheran Health Network adds 7,000-plus staff across eight hospitals, both bound by HIPAA on every patient-data workflow. Add Sweetwater Sound, the largest US online music-gear retailer at $1.86 billion in 2025 revenue, plus Lincoln Financial's insurance roots, and the back-office automation surface across Fort Wayne is enormous.

Allen County logged a record 2024 with more than $2.6 billion in new private investment and 1,050 new job commitments, and it is the fastest-growing big city in the Midwest. Firms here are deploying AI for plant-floor documentation, defense-grade records management, patient access, ecommerce support, and claims and policy work. With Indiana's Consumer Data Protection Act taking effect on January 1, 2026, the operators building compliant automation now are the ones pulling ahead.
