Manufacturing and food production give Waco its industrial backbone. Mars Wrigley confectionery (~700), Wayne-Sanderson Farms poultry (~1,200), AbbVie pharmaceuticals (~785, the former Allergan plant), L3Harris aerospace integration (~774), Cargill, and Coca-Cola distribution all operate here, and Graphic Packaging International is building a roughly $1 billion paperboard plant. Tourism reshaped the rest of the economy. The Magnolia Market at the Silos, built by Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s Fixer Upper, draws more than two million visitors a year and powered a downtown, restaurant, and lodging revival. Waco firms that automate patient access, food-plant maintenance and traceability, document processing, and after-hours customer service are pulling ahead of peers still doing it by hand, while keeping costs and compliance under control.
