Stratford is a small city of about 33,232 people (2021 Census) on the Avon River in Perth County, but it punches far above its size because of the Stratford Festival, North America's largest classical repertory theatre company, founded in 1953. The economy is more diversified than the Festival headline suggests. Advanced manufacturing and auto parts are a growing sector inside southwestern Ontario's manufacturing belt: FIO Automotive Canada makes body parts for Toyota, Hayashi Canada supplies Honda and Toyota, and C.R. Plastic Products runs a robotic assembly line for recycled-plastic furniture. Perth County is one of Ontario's richest agricultural regions, with food processors such as Atwood Heritage Processing nearby, and regional food and beverage manufacturing employs roughly double the provincial share of workers. The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, anchored by the 123-bed Stratford General Hospital, runs on more than 1,100 staff and a budget near $148 million.

These industries share a common operational reality: seasonal demand spikes, document-heavy back offices, and small teams that cannot scale headcount fast enough. Hospitality operators field reservation and event inquiries around the clock through the season. Manufacturers run quality records, supplier coordination, and production scheduling. Food processors manage CFIA food-safety and traceability paperwork. Hospitals and clinics handle scheduling and patient access under Ontario PHIPA. Each of these is a strong fit for AI automation that removes manual rekeying while keeping a regulator-ready audit trail.

Stratford also has a genuine digital backbone that most cities its size lack. The University of Waterloo Stratford School trains digital-media and interaction-design talent, Conestoga College opened a new Stratford campus in 2025, and the city-owned Rhyzome Networks runs a 70 km gigabit fibre grid that helped attract an RBC data centre. Sitting at the western edge of the Toronto-Waterloo corridor, Stratford has the talent and connectivity to put production AI to work quickly and responsibly.
