Michigan is the 14th-largest US state economy, with real gross state product of $568.9 billion in 2025 and more than 10 million residents. It is, above all, the country’s automotive capital. Michigan was named the #1 US state for the auto industry in 2025 and produces almost one-fifth of all US vehicles, more than any other state. General Motors (Detroit), Ford (Dearborn), and Stellantis’s North American base (Auburn Hills) anchor a supplier ecosystem of BorgWarner, Lear, and Autoliv, all mid-transition to electric vehicles on the back of more than $20 billion in EV and battery-manufacturing investment. That same engineering base now ranks third in the nation for both manufacturing and semiconductor jobs.
