Broadcom runs a major wireless-communications R&D campus here (roughly 2,100 engineers), Skyworks Solutions operates an Irvine IC-design center on Jamboree Road, and Blizzard Entertainment's world headquarters at 1 Blizzard Way anchors a deep gaming and interactive-media base. The City reports that advanced-computing and gaming firms alone, led by Broadcom and Blizzard, accounted for more than 22,000 high-paid jobs in 2023.

Medical devices and biotech run just as deep. Edwards Lifesciences (world HQ, the global leader in heart valves, about $6.0 billion in 2023 revenue), Masimo (HQ, noninvasive patient monitoring), and B. Braun Medical give Irvine one of the densest medical-device clusters in California. Every one of these firms runs design, regulatory-submission, and quality workflows under FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and GxP, where validation documentation is the cost of entry for any new system.

Electric vehicles, finance, and consumer brands round out the base. Rivian is headquartered in Irvine, running vehicle engineering, propulsion, battery systems, and commercial functions (full-year 2024 revenue of $4.97 billion), alongside Mazda North American Operations and Parker Aerospace. Capital Group anchors asset management, Taco Bell runs its corporate support center from 1 Glen Bell Way, and the University of California, Irvine, the county's second-largest employer, feeds all of it with engineering and life-sciences talent.

Irvine firms deploying AI for chip-design documentation, medical-device complaint handling and regulatory submissions, EV and supplier coordination, claims and KYC back-office work, and 24/7 customer access are pulling ahead of peers still running everything by hand. With a highly educated workforce, a UCI research pipeline, and a master-planned supply of R&D space, Irvine is one of the most automation-ready mid-size cities in the country.
