Manufacturing endures too: Alpha Wire has headquartered wire and cable production in the city since growing from its 1922 founding, and Allied Beverage Group, New Jersey's largest wine and spirits distributor, runs its distribution operation here. Retail is a second engine, led by The Mills at Jersey Gardens, the largest outlet mall in New Jersey at 1.29 million square feet and 18 million-plus visitors a year, plus the largest IKEA in the tri-state area.

All of this volume drowns local teams in repeatable work. Drayage dispatchers chase container availability and appointment windows; brokers rekey entry data across CBP and carrier systems; warehouse offices field endless status calls; Trinitas Regional Medical Center and its RWJBarnabas-affiliated clinics coordinate scheduling and intake for a large, multilingual, often Medicaid patient base; and the city's thousands of Hispanic and Portuguese-owned shops answer the same customer questions by hand. Every one of these is a queue an AI agent can take off the team.

Elizabeth firms deploying AI for container and appointment tracking, customs and freight document processing, warehouse customer service, patient access, and multilingual lead capture are pulling ahead of competitors still running on phone calls and spreadsheets. With a 67% Hispanic and roughly half foreign-born population, the local advantage is clear: AI that works in English, Spanish, and Portuguese reaches the whole market without adding bilingual headcount, while New Jersey Data Privacy Act and breach-notification discipline is built in from day one.
