Georgia is the largest economy in the Deep South. Its nominal GDP reached roughly $881.5 billion in 2024 per U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis state data, the eighth-largest of any US state, on a population of about 10.9 million that keeps growing through in-migration to metro Atlanta. The state is not one economy but several: a Fortune 500 corporate base in Atlanta, an EV-manufacturing surge on the coast, a film industry that rivals Los Angeles, and a payments cluster that clears a majority of US card transactions.

Logistics is the connective tissue. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport moved 108.1 million passengers in 2024, the busiest airport in the world, while the Port of Savannah handled nearly 5.6 million TEUs as the fastest-growing container gateway on the US East and Gulf coasts. UPS and Norfolk Southern are headquartered in Atlanta, and the Home Depot, Delta Air Lines, Coca-Cola, Southern Company, and Intercontinental Exchange anchor one of the densest corporate-headquarters clusters in the country.

Every one of these sectors burns thousands of staff hours on routine work that AI now handles: freight documentation, customs paperwork, and yard scheduling across the airport and port; supplier and quality workflows at the Hyundai Metaplant and Kia's plants; production and rights paperwork in film; KYC, reconciliation, and dispute handling across the Atlanta payments cluster; and patient access and claims intake across the state's hospital systems. The firms automating these workflows are pulling ahead of peers still routing everything by hand.

Georgia is also building the talent to support it. Georgia Tech's Tech AI hub and Tech Square ecosystem host more than 100 startups and around 25 corporate innovation centres, Emory's AI.Humanity initiative drives applied-AI and digital-health research alongside the CDC, and the Atlanta University Center HBCUs anchor a deep talent pipeline. One thing sets Georgia apart from California or Virginia: there is no comprehensive state consumer-privacy law. The Georgia Consumer Privacy Protection Act (SB 111) passed the Senate 53 to 2 in March 2025 but did not become law, so compliance runs through the federal sectoral regimes that genuinely apply: HIPAA for health data, GLBA for financial institutions, and the card-data-security rules that bind the payments sector, plus Georgia's breach-notification statute.
