Curitiba is the capital of Paraná and one of Brazil's most diversified metro economies, with a metropolitan population of about 3.7 million at the 2022 census and a municipal GDP near R$120 billion in 2023. Long recognised as a model of urban planning, the city pairs a deep industrial base with a fast-growing technology sector. Greater Curitiba's output is led by services at roughly 77%, with industry near 23%, anchored by automotive manufacturing and food processing.

Its defining cluster is automotive. Paraná produces about 14% of Brazil's cars, trucks, and vans, with seven global vehicle brands building in the state. Volvo runs its Latin American truck and bus hub in Curitiba, a plant operating since 1977 that passed 500,000 vehicles produced in December 2025 and is the exclusive global site for the BZRT electric bus chassis. The Renault-Nissan Ayrton Senna Complex in neighbouring São José dos Pinhais, inaugurated in 1998, employs more than 5,300 direct staff in Paraná, and Volkswagen-Audi assembles vehicles in the same belt, all fed by a deep Tier-1 and Tier-2 supplier park working to IATF 16949 quality standards.

Curitiba is also a genuine technology centre. The municipal Vale do Pinhão program coordinates the city government, universities, and entrepreneurs around roughly 670 startups, supported by a relaunched Technopark incentive that drops the municipal service tax to 2% for qualifying technology firms. The city is the home of cross-border payments unicorn EBANX, accounting-software firm Contabilizei, online marketplace MadeiraMadeira, rail-logistics operator Rumo, and Positivo Tecnologia, the largest computer manufacturer in Latin America. Grupo Boticário, the world's largest cosmetics franchising network, is headquartered in São José dos Pinhais.

Around the metro sits the Paraná farm belt: the state is Brazil's second-largest soybean and corn producer and its largest producer of animal protein, with Curitiba acting as the commercial, logistics, and financial hub for that trade and the Campo Mourão cooperative Coamo, the largest agricultural cooperative in Latin America. All of this manufacturing, engineering, knowledge work, and agro-industry creates relentless administrative drag: supplier coordination across the auto belt, quality and warranty documentation to IATF 16949, traceability for grain and poultry exports, KYC for payments and lending, and bilingual customer contact. Curitiba firms automating these workflows are pulling ahead, and the compliance bar set by the LGPD and the ANPD, with Brazil data residency, is the cost of entry.
