Jeddah is the commercial capital and Red Sea gateway of Saudi Arabia, a metro of roughly 4.9 million people with a metro GDP near 235 billion US dollars on a purchasing-power basis. It runs the busiest port on the Red Sea, hosts the Islamic Development Bank, and serves as the main international entry point for the pilgrims travelling to Mecca and Medina. In 2024 the city recorded the second-highest point-of-sale transaction value of any Saudi city, behind only Riyadh.

Trade and logistics sit at the centre. The Jeddah Islamic Port handles about 43 percent of the Kingdom's sea imports across 62 berths, and the Red Sea Gateway Terminal alone offers around 6.2 million TEU of annual capacity, roughly 39 percent of Saudi container throughput. Centuries-old merchant houses such as the House of Alireza, the diversified Xenel group, and consumer-goods anchors Savola Group and BinDawood Holding give the city a deep import-distribution and food-retail base. All of it generates relentless document, customs, and back-office volume that AI handles well.

The pilgrimage economy is a second engine. King Abdulaziz International Airport moved more than 49 million passengers in 2024, and 18.5 million people performed Hajj and Umrah that year, the majority arriving for Umrah. Saudia, the national carrier, is headquartered in Jeddah alongside flyadeal and Saudia Cargo, and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah now runs pilgrim packaging, booking, and payment through the Nusuk platform. Multilingual customer service, scheduling, and document workflows scale sharply around each season.

Vision 2030 is reshaping the rest. The Public Investment Fund is delivering the 75 billion riyal Jeddah Central waterfront project, the UNESCO-listed Al Balad district is being regenerated for tourism, and Red Sea Global's luxury destinations draw international visitors through Jeddah's gateway. Firms that automate customs documentation, KYC and AML under SAMA supervision, ZATCA e-invoicing, pilgrim-facing service, and trade coordination now are pulling ahead of those still running it by hand, while keeping data inside the Kingdom under PDPL and SDAIA rules.
