Guadalajara is the technology capital of Mexico, widely called the Mexican Silicon Valley. The metropolitan area holds about 5.3 million people across eight municipalities, and its metro GDP was roughly 124 billion US dollars on a purchasing-power basis in 2023, the third-largest metro economy in the country. Jalisco overall is Mexico fourth-largest state economy, contributing about 7.5 percent of national GDP, with professional, scientific, and technical services among the fastest-growing segments.

Electronics and software give the city its weight. Jalisco accounts for roughly 70 percent of Mexico semiconductor-related manufacturing and exported about 12.9 billion US dollars of electronics in 2024. Intel, HP, IBM, and Oracle run major design and R&D centres here, while Foxconn, Flex, Jabil, Sanmina, and USI operate advanced contract-electronics plants. Home-grown software firm Wizeline, which opened a generative-AI lab in Guadalajara in 2023, sits alongside Cognizant, HCL, Luxoft, Wipro, and Gameloft in a corridor of more than a thousand technology companies.

The base runs deeper than hardware. Guadalajara is Mexico third-largest startup hub after Mexico City and Monterrey, home to fintechs such as Kueski, Billpocket, and Yotepresto under CNBV supervision and the 2018 Fintech Law. Beyond tech, Jalisco holds more than 80 percent of Mexico agave fields and anchors the tequila agroindustry through the Consejo Regulador del Tequila, and the city leads national animation, gaming, and creative-digital work around the Ciudad Creativa Digital district.

Firms here are deploying AI for document and quality automation in electronics manufacturing, customer onboarding and transaction monitoring in fintech, bilingual customer service across retail and services, and engineering and content workflows in the IT sector. With the roughly 900 million US dollar Foxconn and Nvidia AI-server plant underway in El Salto and a national semiconductor master plan in motion, the organisations that automate routine work now, under the LFPDPPP and LFPIORPI, are pulling ahead of peers still doing it by hand.
