Poznan is the capital of the Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) region and has the second-largest local economy in Poland after Warsaw, the highest GDP per capita of any Polish city, and one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. The city of about 536,000 people sits at the centre of a metropolitan area of more than a million, midway between Berlin and Warsaw on the A2 motorway, which is why it markets itself as a Gateway to Eastern Europe. The city county generated a GDP of roughly EUR 21.6 billion in 2023, and the wider metro reached about EUR 28.6 billion in 2021.

Manufacturing anchors the economy. Volkswagen Poznan is the largest employer in Wielkopolska, with more than 9,000 staff across four plants building the Caddy and Transporter in Antoninek, special vehicles at Swarzedz, castings at the Wilda foundry, and the Crafter and MAN TGE at Wrzesnia, a roughly 220-hectare site designed for around 100,000 vehicles a year. Bridgestone adds tyre manufacturing, GSK anchors pharmaceuticals, and Unilever and Mars anchor food processing and consumer goods. Three large home-grown companies keep their head offices in the city: the energy group Enea, the e-commerce platform Allegro, and the convenience-store chain Zabka.

Each of these sectors carries heavy, repeatable load. Automotive OEMs and suppliers run mountains of quality, traceability, and supplier-coordination paperwork under IATF 16949. Grupa MTP and the Poznan International Fair, the largest trade-fair complex in Poland with about 80 events and 13,200 exhibitors a year, generate recurring registration, logistics, and lead-handling work. The fast-growing business-services and IT cluster, captive centres for Volkswagen, GSK, MAN, and others alongside firms like Sii Polska and Capgemini Polska, runs on finance, procurement, and support workflows, much of it for North American clients. Poznan even hosts the PIAST-AI Factory, one of Poland's two national AI Factories, led by the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center with the local universities.

Poznan firms that deploy AI for engineering and quality-document processing, exhibitor and event operations, finance and procurement back office, and multilingual customer support are pulling ahead of peers still working by hand. With the highest GDP per capita and the tightest labour market in Poland, automation that frees scarce staff for higher-value work pays back quickly, and building EU GDPR and Polish Personal Data Protection Act compliance in from day one, with EU and Poland data residency, is the cost of entry.
