Casablanca is the economic and financial capital of Morocco and the leading financial centre in Africa. The three dominant banking groups, Attijariwafa Bank, Bank of Africa (BMCE), and Banque Centrale Populaire, are all headquartered here, alongside the Casablanca Stock Exchange, the second-largest on the continent with roughly 78 listed companies and about USD 116 billion in market capitalization. Casablanca Finance City, the purpose-built district on the former Anfa airfield, hosts more than 200 member firms, including the regional headquarters of multinationals, and consistently ranks as Africa's most competitive financial centre.

Finance is only one pillar. The Port of Casablanca moves roughly 21 to 23 million tonnes of cargo a year and a large share of national maritime trade, surrounded by a dense customs-brokerage and freight-forwarding ecosystem. The manufacturing base is deep: the Renault Somaca plant in Casablanca feeds a national automotive cluster that made Morocco the European Union's largest source of auto imports in 2023, with around USD 14 billion in automotive exports, while LafargeHolcim Maroc, OCP Group, and a broad textile and food-processing sector round out industry. Telecoms operators Orange Morocco and inwi are headquartered in the city, and Marjane Group anchors retail.

Offshoring is the other Casablanca advantage. Morocco's outsourcing industry employs more than 120,000 people and contributes well over USD 1 billion a year, and Casablanca is the country's primary call-centre hub with roughly 30,000 BPO jobs, serving French, Spanish, and English-speaking markets barely three hours from Paris. That trilingual, finance-and-engineering talent base, anchored by Hassan II University of Casablanca and its 24,000+ students, makes Casablanca one of the highest-leverage cities in Africa to deploy production AI.

Casablanca firms deploying AI for bank KYC and transaction monitoring, capital-markets and brokerage operations, port and customs documentation, predictive maintenance across the manufacturing belt, telecom customer operations, and multilingual BPO augmentation are pulling ahead of peers still running everything by hand.
