Da Nang is the largest city of central Vietnam and the region's anchor for technology, tourism, and trade. The city proper recorded GRDP of about VND 151.3 trillion in 2024 with growth around 7.51%, second among Vietnam's centrally run cities, and on 1 July 2025 it merged with Quang Nam province into a single centrally governed city of over 3 million people. The digital economy already reached about 20.69% of GRDP in late 2024, ahead of the 2025 target, and the city aims for at least 30% by 2030. The ICT sector alone generated over VND 39,000 billion (about USD 1.65 billion) in revenue in 2024, up about 9% year on year.

Technology is the headline story. FPT Software's Da Nang campus, the FPT Complex, houses over 3,200 engineers and is the single largest private technology employer in central Vietnam, and FPT opened a high-tech and semiconductor R&D center at the new Software Park No. 2. Around it sit Axon Active, Gameloft, LogiGear, Enclave, and NAL Solutions, delivering outsourced software to clients in Japan, North America, Australia, and Europe, plus a young semiconductor cluster of 13 chip-design firms including Synopsys, Marvell, and Renesas. This is multilingual, deadline-driven delivery work where intake, ticket triage, documentation, and reporting pile up fast.

Tourism and trade carry the rest of the load. Da Nang welcomed about 10.9 million visitors in 2024, up nearly 33%, with South Korea the largest international market at about 40.55% of staying visitors, drawn to Sun World Ba Na Hills, the My Khe beaches, and resorts such as the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula and Furama. Da Nang Port moved 14.031 million tonnes and 762,191 TEU in 2024 through the Tien Sa and Song Han terminals, with the automated Lien Chieu deep-water port under construction as the eastern gateway of the East-West Economic Corridor. Hotels, tour operators, freight forwarders, and the manufacturers in the Hoa Khanh zones run on round-the-clock, multi-system, paperwork-heavy operations.

The local advantage is talent and digital maturity. Da Nang has ranked first in the Vietnam ICT Index for 14 consecutive years and was named Vietnam's Smart City of 2025, fed by the University of Science and Technology (Da Nang University), Duy Tan University, and FPT University, which now runs AI and semiconductor chip-design tracks. With the Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 91/2025/QH15) in force since 1 January 2026 and supervised by the Ministry of Public Security cyber unit (A05), the operators that build governed, auditable AI now will be the ones ready as enforcement tightens and revenue-based penalties bite.
