Tainan is Taiwan oldest city and former capital, and today one of the most important semiconductor centers on earth. Its campus of the Southern Taiwan Science Park recorded NT$2.97 trillion (about US$93.5 billion) in 2025 revenue, up 34.26% year on year, and the Tainan campus alone out-earns the next two Taiwanese science parks combined. TSMC Fab 18 produces leading-edge 5nm, 4nm, and 3nm logic, while United Microelectronics, Innolux, HannStar, and SPIL (an ASE company) add foundry, display, and advanced-packaging capacity.

Around that silicon core sits a second economy: a large green-energy build-out anchored by the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City in Gueiren District, offshore-wind staging at Anping Port, a deep precision-machinery and semiconductor-equipment supply base, and a centuries-old agriculture and aquaculture sector. Tainan is the center of Taiwan milkfish production, raising roughly half the national total, alongside tilapia, grouper, and hard clam, plus the salt-field heritage of the Beimen and Cigu coast.

Each of these sectors runs on work that AI handles well: fab and supplier documentation, equipment-maintenance signals, multilingual customer and visitor inquiries, procurement and logistics coordination, and the paperwork that surrounds export-controlled semiconductor operations. National Cheng Kung University, ranked among Taiwan top research universities with flagship programs in AI robotics and semiconductor edge computing, gives Tainan one of the deepest engineering talent pools in the region.

Tainan firms that automate now, under Taiwan Personal Data Protection Act and the new Personal Data Protection Commission, pull ahead of peers still running everything by hand. Whether the goal is fewer unplanned line stops in a precision-machinery shop, faster supplier onboarding for a fab vendor, or 24/7 multilingual service for a heritage-tourism operator, the highest-leverage starting points are clear and the talent base to support them is already here.
