Santiago is the capital of Chile and its economic engine: the Santiago Metropolitan Region holds more than 40% of the country's population and GDP, around 7.4 million people, and is the financial, corporate, and services heart of the nation. It is the headquarters base for the world's largest copper industry, the home of the Bolsa de Comercio de Santiago, and the leading technology and startup ecosystem in Chile.

Mining and mining services run through the whole economy. Chile produces roughly 27% of the world's copper, and the sector is about 13% to 14% of national GDP and around half of exports. Codelco, the state-owned company and the largest copper producer on earth, is headquartered in Santiago, as are the corporate operations of BHP and Escondida, Antofagasta Minerals, Anglo American, and the lithium producer SQM. The procurement, engineering, financing, and back-office work for all of it is coordinated from the city.

Finance runs almost as deep. The Sanhattan district across Las Condes, Providencia, and Vitacura concentrates the headquarters of BCI, Banco Santander Chile, Banco de Chile, and BancoEstado, alongside a large pension-fund and insurance sector, all supervised by the CMF (Comisión para el Mercado Financiero) from Santiago. Retail majors Cencosud and Falabella, the wine exporter Concha y Toro, and LATAM Airlines Group are headquartered here too, and the Start-Up Chile accelerator and unicorns like NotCo and Betterfly anchor a fast-growing tech base.

Santiago organisations deploying AI for mining-services back offices, financial-operations reconciliation, customer and citizen service in Spanish, and document-heavy workflow automation are clearing administrative drag that consumes thousands of staff hours every week. With the new Ley 21.719 and Chile's first independent data-protection authority arriving in December 2026, and the CMF and UAF already demanding auditability in finance, the firms moving first are building compliant, audit-ready automation from day one.
